Braided Reality

How observant are you of your surroundings? The trees and grass on your way to work? The people on the bus with you? The streets, cars, and lights at the end of the day? The sound of the door you unlock and lock everyday? In this painted narrative there are two parallel plot lines of a boy and a girl. In the stopmotion animation they cross paths twice, but throughout the night they cross paths with three other different people. It speaks to how we live our daily scheduled lives crossing paths with the same people. We may never truly know more about them and their lives except the portion that is shared between. The only text throughout is the short sentences or thoughts that are caught in quick passing. These short out-of-context snapshots spark curiosity and interest into what these people's lives are truly like. The two plot lines are distinguished by color and time of day. The girl lives in a world of secondary colors such as greens, purples, and oranges. And the boy lives in a world of primary colors such as blues and reds. The path of the girl crosses over from dusk into night. And the path of the boy crosses from night into dawn. This also speaks to how certain people live their lives at different times of the day and night. In the end, there is a scene where there is a dialogue between the two plot lines that refers back to the title. It states that lives are like a braid, when they interlock they become stronger, and the more they interlock the longer the braid and the history becomes.
